Which types of batteries are involved?

Portable Batteries

These include rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries weighing up to 5 kg, not intended for industrial use. Designed to be easily replaced, this category includes everyday batteries such as AA, AAA, button cells, 9V batteries, as well as those integrated into phones, laptops, and electrical appliances.

Light means of transport batteries (LMT)

These are sealed batteries weighing up to 25 kg, specifically designed to power light electric transport vehicles such as e-scooters and e-bikes...

Electric vehicle batteries

These batteries are specially designed to power hybrid or electric vehicles including:

  • Light two, three or four-wheeled vehicles (such as certain motorcycles or quadricycles) weighing over 25 kg
  • Cars, trucks, buses or trailers

Starting, lighting and ignition batteries (SLI)

These are batteries primarily designed to power the starting, lighting or ignition systems of a vehicle. They may also serve secondary or backup functions in vehicles, other modes of transport or various types of machinery.

Industrial batteries

These batteries are designed for industrial use or repurposed for such after being prepared or reassigned. This category also includes any battery weighing more than 5 kg that is not classified as an electric vehicle battery, LMT battery, or SLI (Starting, Lighting, Ignition) battery.
